Blueberries
Blueberries are an excellent source of flavonoids, especially anthocyanidins. These antioxidant compounds are responsible for the blue, purple, and red pigments. Blueberries are also a very good source of vitamin C, soluble fiber, and insoluble fiber, such as pectin. In addition, they are a good source of manganese, vitamin E, and riboflavin.
A 100 gram serving equals about 2/3 cup and provides 57 calories, 0.7 gram of protein, 0.3 gram of fat, and 14.5 grams of carbohydrate, with 2.4 grams of fiber and only 9.9 grams of natural sugars (fructose and glucose).
Strawberries
Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamins C and K, dietary fiber, and flavonoids. They are also a very good source of manganese, pantothenic acid, vitamin BI, and iodine. Strawberries are also a good source of folic acid, biotin, and vitamin B6. A 100 gram serving is about 2/3 cup strawberries and provides 32 calories, 0.7 gram of protein, 0.3 gram of fat, and 7.7 grams of carbohydrate, with 2.0 grams of fiber and only 4.7 grams of natural sugars (glucose and fructose).
Ingredients (Serves 1)
- 0.5 cup frozen strawberries
- 0.5 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 handful of sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon organic honey
- 0.5 cup unsweetened or freshly squeezed orange juice ice cubes (optional)
Directions
Put all the ingredients in a blending device, and blend until desired consistency. Do not blend too much, or you might oxidize the drink and lose necessary nutrients.
