Energy Boosters
Definition
An energy booster is a substance that improves and stabilize energy metabolism.
How Energy Boosters Work
Energy-boosting remedies aid in the creation of a steady and stable vitality and energy levels.
The studies have shown that energy levels are controlled by neurons, which are nerve cells in the brain that communicate via chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. The fluctuations in the neurotransmitters levels affect energy levels to a great extent. In addition, there is a close correlation between sudden changes in energy levels and hypoglycaemia & hyperglycemia.
Usually energy boosters improve and stabilize energy metabolism through increasing the cellular ATP (adenosine triphosphate molecule) level and oxygen utilisation. As holistic practitioners aim to treat the cause as well as relieve the symptoms energy boosters are usually prescribed in combination of other remedies which address precipitating or causative factors. These may include nervines and adaptogens amongst others.
The energy extremes created artificially, as with caffeine and other stimulants, are not conducive to optimal health and act like stressors, which actually harm the body rather than help. Therefore should be avoided.
